Overall statement :
After the last General Meeting of the Bize library volunteers on June 11th 1009, it was apparent that, following the resignation of officials and a lack of volunteers, the association could no longer continue without bringing into question the service delivered to the population, namely the ability to borrow books at no cost with volunteers on duty at the library premises.
It was decided not to announce the dissolution of the association immediately, but to inform the public when everything was clearer. The outcome of this was to announce a new General Meeting after the schools returned, to decide on the future of the association.
Today, the association has been dissolved, but three weekly openings are maintained by volunteers, which means the service is retained. The library opens 5 hours per week.
In addition, the volunteers have arranged visits by classes from schools in Bize and the Occitan school Lo Cigal.

The commune of Bize has, at its disposal, around 6000 books, of which 1500 are for young people, children and teenagers. These books can be borrowed or used in the library premises, which is situated in the centre of the village.
The association The Friends of the Library organised the opening hours as well as managing the operations (the facilities for the books available, classification of the books, purchase of new books...) Additionally, the Friends of the Library organised two cultural events per year, in the spring and in the autumn: Poets in Spring and a Reading Festival.
In May 2008, the Friends of the Library invited writer Jean-Pierre GROTTI : A chance to meet at the village hall.
A visit to the homeland of Milosz, Lithuania.
In September 2008, Luc Coste-Sarguet gathered together and presented some notes and thoughts from a visit to the Lithuanian countryside with the association of the Friends of Milosz in Paris.

Library bus visit and the chance to reserve.
The library bus from the Narbonne branch of the Aude Department Library (BDA) visits Bize twice per year. On each occasion, the readers in the village have access to around 500 books, of which half are for children and young people. There is a large choice of novels and comic books, reference books for children of all ages; for the adult readers, there are new arrivals amongst the novels, non-fiction, adult comic books and books on art.
The twice-yearly visits of the library bus combine with a system of shuttles to deliver books on demand. As a service to help the needs of readers, the BDA has launched an internet site , which allows volunteers and library personnel, as well as readers, to view the catalogue of books available to borrow, education, cultural activities, visiting exhibitions... Also, the library readers can order particular books via their local volunteers from the collection of the BDA, which has more than 200,000 titles listed.
