The senior citizens club "Lou Recantou" in Bize-Minervois
This association was founded in 1977. It has 270 members, a number which is constantly growing. New arrivals are coming from different nationalities: French, of course, but also English, German, Dutch...
The club has a main purpose, as well as being diverse, and is involved in a large number of activities.
Humanitarian Committee :
- Distribution of Christmas parcels to all the people in the village (members or not), whose driving days have finished. Responsible: Mrs Azéma and Mrs Roubiscoul.
- Annual collection for charity food distribution centres.
- Annual collection for cancer research.
- Installation of tele-alarms (Presence Verte). Responsible: Mrs Arnaud.
- Collection of old spectacles and despatch to developing countries. Responsible: Mrs Arnaud.
- Annual participation in the Telethon.
Travel Committee :
Every year this committee organises two trips - one for one day and one for 8 days.
On Fridays - oil, water colours... with a teacher, Mrs Colette Lencioni, from 14.00 to 17.00.
Responsible : M. Claude Vachez.
Needlework Committee : (Wednesdays from 14.00 to 17.00) and Fabric painting : (Mondays 14.00 to 17.00)
Making various items of needlework, paintings, fabrics, manufactured and bought for the benefit of the club. Responsible: Mrs. Constancio (fabric painting) and Mrs. Sauzède (needlework).

Ramblers Committee : (every Tuesday for walks in the countryside).

Local History Committee :
Responsible : Mme Arnaud.
Committee in charge of organising afternoon and evening activitiesEach year - two meals, two tasting demonstrations, and the Carnival, for which Le Récantou makes a float.
All the management council of the association takes part in this committee.
Catering Committee:
Preparation and service of food during the various events (tasters, meals, tea dances) organised by the Club.
Responsible: Mrs. Azéma.

The most recently formed committee (in the first half of 2009) of this very dynamic senior citizens club in Bize.
