The grand total of the pupils in the nursery and primary schools in Bize is rising. In the school year 2008-09, it was up to 87 children, who are divided into four classes:
Audrey Rein is the teacher of the nursery children, from the "very young" class (from age 2) up to the middle class. In this class, Danièle Camman is the nursery support.
Emmanuelle Albano is the teacher for the classes in the upper section/CP/CPE2.
Céline Sémat, head teacher, is the teacher for the CE1 class and half of the CM1 class.
Stéphanie Triadou (working 3/4 of the week) and Julie Guillerm (1/4) are the teachers of the CM2 class and half of the CM1 class.

Canteen and after-school

Une petite structure, un cadre agréable.
The supervisors of the CLAE (canteen and after-school care - run by the SIVU of South Minervois) look after some of the school children every day between midday and 2pm, as well as in the evening after 5pm up to 6.30pm.
During this time with the children, Nadia Resplandy (responsible for the CLAE), Cécile Gil and Cécile Lafon set assignments, as well as doing numerous activities, which contribute to an annual project.

Work of the council

In the 2007 projects plan, which was delivered in 2008, the mayor Alain Fabre and his town council took the decision to go ahead with the infrastructure work. During the summer of 2007, the council proceeded with renovating the playgrounds with tarmac and making a small repair to the main area in front of the building, around the base of the trees. A special resin was used, which allowed the roots to be visible but dispelled the water. The new surfaces were marked with warnings for the safety of the children.
The development of the 1st floor of the schools is expected soon, with a sports hall (1st phase), and a computer room, with a supplementary classroom, if needed (2nd phase).

School trips

Image
In autumn 2007, the children from the CP class and the nursery school, accompanied by their teachers, Céline Sémat, Emmanuelle Albano and Annick Rosalen, took a trip to see the "grape harvest". Amongst the vines belonging to Danièle and Jean-Louis Camman, the pupils, equipped with scissors and buckets, went to look at the vines, heavy with grapes full of sugar. They were following the ancient method of picking grapes by hand.

The grapes collected were poured into a hopper, then pressed with the "massa" (still called "lady"). One by one, the pupils also "crushed" the grapes to obtain the must... After this manual labour, all the children had a taste of the fruit of the vine, the refreshing grape juice.

The principle points of this trip would be recalled in the classroom: stories written about the morning, key points drawn... and finally, the pupils work together to produce a billboard about the vine and autumn fruits.

Christmas in the schools

On the last afternoon before the Christmas holidays in 2007, the Bize school pupils put on a show in the village hall. On the stage, the older ones did artistic gymnastic demonstrations, and then sports demonstrations. Beautiful group tableaux were presented, with co-ordinated movements and elaborate scenery, while the youngest put their efforts into dances and rounds, which received much applause. For a finale, all the children came together for a successful performance of Christmas songs, mostly traditional songs, and a new slant with a jazz rhythm.

La lettre au Père Noël.
The teachers, Audrey Rein, Chantal Gabrillargues, Emmanuelle Albano and Céline Sémat, head teacher, as well as Danièle Camman, Cécile Gil, Cécile Lafon and Nadia Resplandy, were in charge of the preparation and the accompaniment for this celebratory afternoon. The sequence of events comprised the first part in front of the parents: once the show was completed, Father Christmas arrived and gave out gifts to all the children. In the second part, the pupils had a Christmas party, before starting their well-deserved holidays.
