FAMILY DAY

FAMILY DAY: celebration day on June 8th 2008

Image

Families by blood, families of friends, families through love, families you have chosen, this is life, the life we live every day. Let us enjoy the presence of those around us. It is a blessing. This gathering of all generations, before the summer, before the school holidays, is a symbol. As long as we know how to speak to each other, to support each other, to listen, to respect, Bize will remain a village, where it is good to live. Lydie FAURE

In the run up to the summer season, the association "Petit à petit" organised a big celebration day, open to everyone, particularly families from Bize and the surrounding communes. This original idea was well-received: many parents came with their children.

The young audience went from one stand to another, discovering all sorts of entertainment: musical stands, things to make and to decorate, Occitan lectures in the marquee, make-up demonstrations, circus display, demonstrations of Latin dance, large scale wooden board games, and the Bronx drums. The good atmosphere, convivial and friendly, enhanced by an open-air buffet at lunchtime, was much appreciated.

All the entertainment was free, provided with the help and support of many volunteers, as well as the participation of partners, who sponsored the event. The organisers offered their thanks to the village and the technical services for their logistical support for the whole day. On this inaugural occasion, the family festival succeeded in being a great surprise. Today, many of the organisations are ready to get started to promote the extracurricular activities for the children, which partly explains the good feeling around.

Many volunteers were available for the children, who enjoyed being able to move from one activity to another for the whole day.

The idea for this new event was born out of the proposals of a group of parents and children, who came to the reception of the mobile association "Petit à petit...", and who expressed the desire to take part in organising a day, which put the family first.

The aim of the day and the occasion was to meet other families of the communes and to spend some happy time "as a family." It was a convivial time also to value some local initiatives promoted by the families and to bring together some of the competences found in the family home: entertainment, infancy, parenthood, adolescence, across the generations... and a time to meet and share with individuals and professionals to get to know, at a community level, initiatives and organisations.

"The 11th Sail" association from Homps has made a film of the day. This short half-hour film has been made available to everyone.
