In the depths of the Minervois countryside, the splendid tasting cellar of the Chateau de Landure warrants a detour: there you can taste very good Vins de Pays d'Oc and AOC, bearing the name of the estate, Chateau Landure.

All the wines are made from grapes harvested on the 26 hectares of the estate, straddling the 3 communes of Bize-Minervois, Mailhac and Aigues-Vives.

The site of the Château de Landure.

This place has been inhabited by man since ancient times: they say since the Stone Age... The spot was called Landure by the Cathars, in the 12th century, who wanted to atone for their faults there in the calm and serenity.

Belonging to the Abbaye de Fontfroide in the Middle Ages, the lands were sold in the 17th century to an ancestor of the Rouvière family. The château building dates from 1870, a prosperous period for the Languedocian vineyard.

To find the château... From Narbonne, take the RD607 Narbonne-Bize road for 20 kilometres. When you get to the Cabezac roundabout (which is a junction with the Minervois road RD607 Beziers-Carcassonne), go straight over in the direction of d'Aigues-Vives, the Saint Pons road. You will find the Château de Landure a little further along on the left, about 3 kilometres after the roundabout.
